A person that is lazy is someone that doesn’t put effort into things that need to get done. Most people don’t want to spend their energy doing things that aren’t fun, but the problem is that if you are always being lazy, you will never reach your goals.
How can you stop being so lazy? Here are some things that you can do to overcome laziness and live a better life:
- Accept You Are Lazy
Don’t be mad when someone says you are lazy but accept that you are and try to be better. Being lazy can lead to negative self-talk which can increase your stress and cause you to have even less productivity.
Accept that you are lazy and that this is just who you are and then work through it without being so hard on yourself.
- Figure Out Why You Are Lazy
There has to be a reason that you are being lazy. You have to find out what kind of motivation style that you have and what you can do to be less lazy. If you don’t know why you are being lazy, try to write things down such as times when you feel the most tired or the most unmotivated.
Notice the environment around you and what you are doing and see if there is some kind of pattern that you can see.
- Break Patterns
Sometimes laziness is a habit. You might get lazy after lunch or after eating. Get rid of these feelings by breaking the habits associated with them. Work somewhere else or eat at a time that you are most energetic or motivated.
- Set Goals
Make sure that you are setting goals that you can reach. Don’t set goals that will never be possible, or you will keep putting it off.
- Make a Plan
Make a plan on the things that you need to get done and stay with that plan. Figure out how to write out a list of things that you need to do and then do it. If you have a book to finish, for example, write down that you will finish the book in a month.
Specify things such as what you will eat that day and the things that even seem small to you.
- Do Something Small
When you accomplish a small goal, celebrate. Make sure that you are noticing things that you get done even when you don’t feel like it. If you are ready to do something productive, you have only 5 seconds before you change your mind. Don’t hesitate but as soon as you feel motivated, act on it.
- Pomodoro Technique
Use this technique to help you to be more productive. The idea behind this is to focus on your work and then take smaller breaks. You have to work for at least 20 minutes and then only break 3 minutes. After four times of doing this, you can take a longer break.
- Know Your Shut Down Routes
Many people will say that they are feeling lazy before they even get started. Figure out what kind of times are happening when you feel this way. You might feel lazy during your favorite show. If so, recognize this and work after your show is off or make sure that you have your television show recorded and turned off so you can watch it later.
- Embrace the Lazy
Sometimes being lazy is a good thing. It can help you to figure out how to rest and get back to your motivation. When you feel bouts of laziness coming, rest or take a vacation and then get back to it when you are done.
- Do the Task Right Away
If something comes up that you need to get done, do it right away. Take out the trash now or go grocery shopping now. Don’t put it off.
- Don’t Be a Perfectionist
You will never be perfect, and you shouldn’t strive to be. Stop putting things off because you are afraid that you won’t be perfect at it. Being a perfectionist is not good for your health.
- Reward Yourself
Set goals and when you reach them, reward yourself and celebrate. You deserve it.
- Find Someone to Work with
Find a partner or someone that will help you to get things done. Find someone that will motivate you to do better in your life. It can be hard sometimes to find someone to motivate you, but you can talk to someone and at least work through your thoughts and see if you can come up with a solution.
- Meet Motivated People
There are many people that are super motivated. Surround yourself with people that get things done and people that are positive. Seek out people that work well with a group and those that are able to get things done on their own.
- Move
Try to focus on some movement during your day. Moving can help you to feel more motivated in your life. Go to the gym, go for a walk, go for a hike, or even just dance around your kitchen.
- Set the Clock
You can set alarms throughout the day that will make you aware that it is time to get something done. Set an alarm for so many minutes and when it goes off, work for a certain amount of time that you set.
- Take a Shower
If you have no energy, take a cold shower. This will get you motivated to move. This also has benefits that can take away your tiredness.
- Make Your Tasks Fun
Having tasks that you hate can make you lazier. Find ways to make your tasks exciting and fun. Do this so that you will be motivated to get them done. Finish these first and then move on to things that you don’t mind so much.
- Nap
Napping can help you to feel better and more productive. Take a nap for about 20 minutes. If you aren’t sleeping well though, try to make sure that you get at least 7 hours of sleep.
- Be More Productive
You can get less lazy if you are more productive. Figure out how to be more productive to get things done. Buy an app so that you can mark your tasks down. Find things to do that don’t take as much effort and see if you can get more things done.
Final Thoughts
It is okay to be lazy sometimes but if you are always being lazy then you have to make some changes. Figure out what is causing you to not be motivated and change your mindset. Set routines that you can actually finish and figure out your lack of motivation.
