We all struggle controlling our emotions at times. Emotions can feel that they are there out of nowhere and it can cause you to be confused or to not know why you are feeling the way that you do.
Maybe you are crying out of nowhere over a commercial or you get mad because someone forgot to take the garbage out.
People have these times when their emotions are strong. Emotions are something that come automatically to something that happens.
For example, if you hear about a baby that is missing, you will start to feel sad, even if you don’t know this person. You will have emotional responses, and, in some people, they are strong while others do not have such strong responses.
If you volunteer your time in a daycare, you might have stronger emotions because you love babies and you feel sorry for this child that is missing.
DBT or Dialectical Behavior Therapy is a therapy that helps to control the mind. It takes the rational mind and sees that you can understand your emotions and your responses better.
We often allow our emotions to be strong and we often do not keep them in check. Sometimes you have to learn to balance your emotions.
How to Manage Your Emotions
The first thing that you have to understand is that your emotions give you clues that your mind is trying to show you something. Find out what you are feeling and why. Let your emotions be part of your mind and be wise about how you let them come out.
Emotions Aren’t Good or Bad
People have different emotional responses, and this can be based on different things. Your reaction can be different than others, but it is not bad or good. Emotions do not have to be negative.
Emotions and Actions
While you cannot control when your emotions come, you are able to control how you react to them. If you are mad at someone, it doesn’t mean that you have to run and tell them off right away. You can control how you let your emotions show themselves.
You need to know that you can control your actions. It is okay to be mad at someone, but you cannot go and hit them or run them over. You have to take control of the actions that you do.
Once you learn to acknowledge your emotions, you can see that it will tell you what you are feeling. This is part of your minds way to solve problems and to make decisions.
You cannot control your emotions, but you can learn to keep your actions in check and not let your emotions control you.
