How to Hide Nervous Habits

Posted on December 21, 2020 by Panic Help Zone Author

When you have times in your life that are hard or you have to be out in front of people, chances are that you will have times where you are nervous. Even if you plan on how you are going to react, you can still end up being nervous.

You might get a rush of adrenaline that makes you feel sick to your stomach, sweaty or it might make you become nervous and even twitch or bite your nails, depending on what kind of nervous habits you might have. This is called a fight or flight reaction and is normal for people but can be embarrassing at times.

It would be amazing if you could learn to calm down when things are hard or when you are a in a situation that makes you nervous.

Here are some ways that you can hide your nervousness and deal with any situation:

Deep Breathe

When you are nervous, it causes you to change your breathing habits. Do you ever wonder why you sometimes feel that you could faint when you get super nervous? This happens because you change your breathing, and you need to learn to concentrate on your breathing so you can take deep breaths and relax.

Admit It

One thing that you should never do is admit you are nervous. This can cause you to focus on what is happening to your body and cause you to be worse than you were.

Talk Slow

If you get nervous, chances are that you will talk faster. People that are trying to listen to you might have a hard time if you talk to fast to know what you are saying.

Relax

Check your body and see what you are doing when you get nervous. Are your muscles tight and are you sitting in an uncomfortable position? Try to be calm and do things such as sit with your feet on the floor and your hands in your lap to keep them from tapping or wringing. Try not to frown.

Eye Contact

When you are nervous, it might be harder to have eye contact. You might be looking all around instead of looking at who you are trying to talk to. Try to keep eye contact and get your thoughts straight.

Questions

If you feel nervous, ask questions so that not all of the attention is on you. This will give you time to be calm and to get your thoughts together, so you know what to say next.

Be You

Know who you are, and things will go well. Know that we all make mistakes and that you are human. Do not try to trick people to tell jokes. Just let things go naturally and it will all work out.

Still Nervous?

If you have tried everything to keep from looking nervous, instead of being nervous, learn to be excited. Say you are excited and then fake your excitement until you believe it. This can cause you to not look nervous and can change your nervous feelings into excitement. This can help you to keep it together when you need to.
