Do you ever get yourself in a position where you are on social media and before you know it you have spent hours looking at the life of those around you, trying to understand how their life is so great? Do you wonder why they have such a good body or why they get to go on all these glamorous vacations?
What started as just looking at pictures could easily turn into you looking at how bad your life is, how ugly your body is and how your job does not give you the fulfillment to go where you want. You figure out that you maybe aren’t as happy as you thought you were and maybe something is telling you that some of the aspects of your life aren’t as good as you hoped they were. Maybe you are feeling like you don’t measure up to everyone else.
Being envious is one of the things that is considered one of the deadly sins. This is something that is an emotions that is full of hate and full of anger. Envy can make you feel bad about others and can cause you to compare your life with theirs.
Envy has caused people to compete for years in most things and everything isn’t about competing. You do not have to evaluate who you are because of what someone else is. Doing this can cause people to be angry and upset.
Even if you don’t realize that you are guilty of social stalking, even if you just envy someone because of their successes in their life then you are being envious and you have no right to be.
Envy and Life
Everyone gets envious of others at one time or another and this is normal but when you allow these feelings to consume you, it can cause you to lose your own true reality. When you only pay attention to what other people are doing and how successful that they are, it can cause you to see yourself negatively.
The only life that you should ever worry about is your own life and when you waste your time comparing yourself to other people then you will be full of false thinking and negativity in your life.
Stop Being Negative
You don’t have to allow yourself to be envious of others. There are ways that you can learn to look at people in a different perspective and this can change your feelings.
Pay attention to how you react when someone that you know or someone that you love is successful. Do you immediately become jealous or do you congratulate them and mean it? Learn to celebrate others and be happy for them.
Delete Social Media
One of the biggest problems that people face is comparing their lives to others on social media. If you find that you are doing this, you need to get away from social media for a while until you can see things from a different point of view.
When you spend your time out with people that have different values than you, chances are that your values will change. Spending time with people that are prideful or only believe in material things can cause you to become that person. This is not something that you want to fall into, and you will only find that you are wasting your time and money.
Comparing Your Own Self
Learn to compare your own life with your life in the past. Look how far you have come and how much you have accomplished. When you learn to compare yourself with your own self, you get rid of the idea of living a life in comparison with others.
Look at how much money you have made, how much weight you have lost and how much you have embraced life.
When you look at your friends and your family, learn to be thankful for what you have. Learn to recognize that there will always be people that are different than you and embrace their differences and their successes.
Look at Their Life
Stop focusing on all the good that you see in someone and imagine that you are in their shoes. What do you really know about their life and what they are going through?
Someone might seem like their life is perfect when really, they are going through as many or more problems than you are. Do not think that you would be happy if you were able to change your life or to exchange lives with someone, chances are that you wouldn’t be.
When you see that life is hard for everyone, this can help you to stop being jealous of other people’s lives.
Learn to be thankful and to express your thankfulness for what you have. Do not let stress and aggravation hold you back but be happy for what you have and what you have been given in your life.
Practice being thankful and let others know that you appreciate them and are thankful that they are in your life.
